The Background

 

When the Old Flower Shop was purchased in 2022, the new owners had plans to transform it into one of Nottingham’s best bars. The rustic industrial feel that previously existed ensured sports fans felt at home on game days and nights, but there was a feeling there was much more potential to tap in to. Having enjoyed success in the area before, the management team wanted to emulate the look and feel of their past venues, knowing they had a winning formula that would have loyal customers flooding back in no time.

The Brief

 

At the heart of the refurbishment project was a desire to create a high-end eatery, that would be perfect for smart-casual dining and drinking throughout the week. As part of the design package we were asked to look at new fixed seating, indoor loose furniture, outdoor tables & chairs, as well as re-upholstering some of the existing statement furniture. The clearly defined colour scheme and floral theme lent itself perfectly to a variety of exposed frame chair options and the use of lavishly patterned fabrics.

The Work

 

To make the most of available space we created bespoke fixed seating in various sizes, finished with fluted and deep button backs to add detail and character. The venue was to offer guests the chance to relax and enjoy the fayre at varying levels, so we custom made Tulip and Charlotte high chairs to deliver style, comfort and support at poseur height. Dean carvers, as well as Geoff & Harper side chairs supply the same benefits at regular dining height, with our new Morgan lounge chairs providing a further touch of elegance lower down.

 

For the tables we fixed rustic reclaimed wood and Carrera Marble laminate tops with gold edging sitting on Estelle bases at all heights. The use of the two very different elements in the same room now provides a choice of aesthetic experience, both of which suit the venue’s culinary offering. Outside we installed two adjoining Manhattan Pergolas to provide shelter from the elements when needed, while letting light and warmth into the space on sunnier days.

The Results

 

The Old Flower Shop is now a thriving restaurant bar at the centre of an up-and-coming local hospitality scene. Customers loyal to the old business are being joined by new visitors keen to experience the finely crafted food, beverage & ambiance on offer, with space regularly at a premium despite the 20% increase in capacity.
