The Background
Druids Heath Golf Club is a high-ranking course set in the heart of Staffordshire. As well as it’s stunning scenery, well-kept fairways and pristine greens, the Club prides itself on its ability to offer its members great food and friendly service in the comfortable surroundings of the clubhouse.
The main building’ bar, restaurant and function room not only serve as the nineteenth hole for post-round refreshment and sustenance, but is also a popular venue for events and special occasions such as members’ receptions, captains' dinners, weddings, and wakes.
The Task
Having worked with Druids Heath in the past, it was a pleasure to be asked to assist them when it came to updating the interior decor. The clubhouse was to undergo a full refit from fittings to furniture as the space had started to look a little run down and not longer reflected the impressive nature golf course. The client brought us in to source and supply a range of loose furniture that was suitable for the clientele as well as produce onsite shelving units for trophies.
During an initial site visit our sales team suggested that space within the venue could be better utilised, subsequently creating a floorplan to enable the management team to visualise which areas could be optimised to comfortably accommodate more members and their guests.
The Work
With a clear understanding of the desired aesthetic required for this refit, the management team chose furniture models that not only reflected the classic look of the establishment, but also kept the comfort, functionality and stability needs of the guests in mind. Fabrics that were to be used on the upholstered pieces were then chosen to tie in with the new traditional checked pattern grey carpets that were fitted within the venue.
For the clubhouse’s casual dining and lounge areas we provided a range of fully upholstered side, carver, arm and high chairs. Bono Deep Button Back Side Chairs and Nina Carver Chairs filled the dining area, upholstered in contrasting fabrics with Panaz Highland in Graphite on the inside and Panaz Portman Murray (a traditional check print) on the back.
Bono High Chairs made perfect additions to the bar area as they gave members and visitors a choice of poseur height seating, with Atlantic Side Chairs offering versatility, comfy and support at a lower level. The Atlantics were upholstered on both the seat and back, the back is finished in Panaz Highland Graphite and the seat pad is finished with Panaz Montagu grey/blue, both woven fabrics that are stain and waterproof.
To add extra comfort to the space and with older members in mind, Smith Armchairs in a deep button back finish were provided for a very classic aesthetic with good back and weight support. These armchairs were upholstered in Panaz Portman Taylor which is a smaller check print in Navy Mocha chosen to sit alongside the pattern prominent in the carpets and in the side chairs.
All pieces were polished in a light walnut that matched the wooden features within the rooms as well as the banquet tables. Due to the average age of golf members being over 60, it was important to have structurally sound table with four solid legs chosen over pedestal bases to evens out weight distribution and allow guests to use the table for balance when getting up out of their chairs.
Lisbon Side Chairs combined with Naples Table Bases and Compact Laminate Table Tops in anthracite were provided for the outdoor area, allowing guests to relax in the sunshine, whilst enjoying food and drink from the bar. All these pieces are easy to maintain, clean and stack away in the winter months.
The final touches for the project was to install bespoke trophy cabinets mounted around the clubhouse to display various awards. These became a true stand-out feature, helping to reflect the stature of the golf club and its many achievements.
The Result
Druids Heath now has a clubhouse where guests can truly relax before and after a round in both style and comfort. Although still a very traditional space, the venue has been able to add modern touches throughout, as well as achieving a better workflow and increased capacity.
