The Background

Tucked away in Edgware, London, The Regency Club is a beloved family-run bar and grill that has built a loyal following since it first opened its doors in 1991. Originally a members-only club with a small menu of Indian-inspired dishes, it has grown into one of the finest establishments of its kind in the city, celebrated for its unique fusion of Kenyan and Indian flavours.

As a venue that values quality, tradition, and customer experience, The Regency Club has continuously invested in its space, transforming what was once a traditional British pub-style interior into an elegant, high-society English setting. Having worked with the team on its original refurbishment in 2019, Contract Furniture Group was proud to be invited back to support its latest upgrade.

The Task

Our brief this time was centred around sustainability and continuity. Rather than replacing furniture entirely, The Regency Club wanted to breathe new life into its existing fixed seating by recovering the pads and reupholstering elements that had experienced natural wear over time. This approach aligned perfectly with the venue’s participation in the Play It Green initiative, supporting climate-conscious practices in the hospitality sector.

The Work

In the original fit-out, we installed custom fixed seating around the perimeter of the restaurant, with both deep button back and plain back styles. We also supplied Leona Side Chairs and High Chairs, upholstered in Agua’s Aura navy polyester linen, a high-performance, antimicrobial fabric suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The backs were finished in Achillea Grey, a traditional English-style patterned velvet with a beautifully layered foliage design that adds rich texture and depth.

To complement these, we provided Bentwood Side Chairs and stools in a light teak polish, upholstered in a soft light grey velvet with traditional old brass studding, enhancing the timeless charm of the venue.

Fast forward six years, and these original pieces have proven their durability. Rather than discarding them, the client opted for a full reupholstery of the existing fixed seating pads, which we carried out on-site to minimise disruption and reduce the project’s carbon footprint. For the update, we used Old English real leather in burgundy for the deep button backs, giving the seating a rich, aged finish that enhances the new traditional aesthetic. The plain backs were refreshed with the same grey velvet as the Bentwood chairs, while the seat pads were updated using Yarwood’s grey faux leather for added practicality.

The Result

This project demonstrates the long-term value of investing in quality commercial furniture. Six years after the original installation, the structure and design of the seating remained in excellent condition, proof of the durability and craftsmanship behind every piece we supply.

Most importantly, the project reflects our commitment to sustainable design and building lasting client relationships. By choosing to upcycle rather than replace, The Regency Club not only reduced waste and environmental impact but also retained the cohesive look its customers love. The result is a refreshed space that feels brand new, without losing its sense of familiarity or charm.
