The Background
The Feathers public house and kitchen in Rickmansworth is a thriving old world pub with a traditional feel that sits at the heart of the local community. The owners pride themselves on their aspirational atmosphere, fabulous fine wines, beautiful beers and fantastic fresh food. The venue has indoor and outdoor areas offering drinkers and diners the chancy to get cosy by the fire or go al fresco.
The Task
Outdoor furniture at The Feathers was re-purposed indoor tables and chairs protected by a parasol. Subsequently the beautiful garden was only really used in the summer months. In order to make more of the summer season’s big events, as well as accommodate a general desire to be outside whatever the weather, it was decided to invest in new furniture and a structure that would both shelter guests and allow them to enjoy the sun when it shone.
The Work
We started by creating floor plan drawings suggesting a new layout for the furniture that would make the most of the space. Once approved, we positioned three 3m x 6m Manhattan Pergolas to create over 50m2 of useable and protected space – complete with heaters when the temperature drops. We then manufactured and installed bespoke outdoor fixed seating and rustic reclaimed tables with tornado metal bases.
The Result
The Feathers is now seen as a great destination venue for outdoor dining and drinking in Rickmansworth. As well as aesthetic appeal and functionality, the project increased the number of potential covers in an outdoor area that can now be used all year round.
