The Background
Nestled on the border of Devon and Cornwall, the China Fleet Country Club is a premier health club located within 180 acres of stunning scenery. This venue boasts a variety of amenities including a golf course, health club, spa, and self-catered apartments, catering to a diverse range of visitors all looking to relax and recuperate. At the heart of the Country Club lies The Brasserie, dining space where guests can unwind and enjoy a meal after a day of activities. Recently, the China Fleet Trust invested £100,000 to upgrade the club's facilities, ensuring it remains a leader in health and wellbeing in the region.
The Task
To oversee the refurbishment, China Fleet enlisted Designs Unlimited, an interior design team from Buckfastleigh. It’s mission was to revitalise the reception areas, spa, changing rooms and The Brasserie, to create a vibrant, fresh atmosphere to help improve visitor numbers. Over time, The Brasserie had grown tired, with dark walnut furniture and outdated cream and aqua blue upholstery with the space clearly needing a new energy and better optimisation of space.
Designs Unlimited contacted us to help rejuvenate the dining area while staying within budget a task our team at Contract Furniture Group were highly qualified and excited to assist with.
The Work
Designs Unlimited centred their design around the large sloped window panelling, aiming to bring warmth and natural elements into the dining area, reflecting the beautiful views outside. The use of naturally stained timbers was a priority, along with upholstery colours that added warmth and echoed nature's palette. The design also focused on optimising the open space to improve flow and accommodate more guests.
After careful consideration, two styles of chairs were chosen from our range: the Bunny Side Chair and the Benet Side Chair. Both were stained to a natural oak finish, with seat pads upholstered in fresh greens and warm ochres, using fabrics like Pelle Caiman and Nexus Paris from Sunbury. The combination of woven and suede fabrics provided a complementary contrast, all treated with Aquaclean for enhanced stain resistance and easy cleaning.
The Benet Side Chairs featured cane detailing on the back, adding another dimension to the nature-inspired interior. Alongside these, our fully upholstered Wellington Side Chairs were selected for their soft curves and natural exposed wooden frames.
To complement the chairs, square, round, and rectangular laminate table tops in Vicenza Oak were chosen, paired with black KX30 and KX22 table bases. These bases are budget friendly, but have the enhanced feature of being auto-adjustable, to ensure stability on various flooring types.
A standout feature of this project was the fixed seating, designed to complement the cane-backed chairs. Upholstered in a warm tan vinyl and finished with natural-looking timber and cane detailing around the bottom, this seating enhanced the space's nature-inspired textures while adding to the wow factor.
The Result
The Brasserie has been transformed into a casual and comfortable space for guests to relax. By incorporating natural timbers, warm nature-inspired colours, optimising the windows, and utilising space effectively with fixed seating and various table sizes, an inviting and vibrant environment has been created. The rejuvenated venue now offers an unforgettable dining experience, reflecting China Fleet’s dedication to excellence and service.
